Summary of the MX4A Vacuum Gauge
The Televac® MX4A Active Vacuum Gauge uses a Televac® 4A convection vacuum gauge. It has a 1*10-3 to 1,000 Torr vacuum measurement range. It also has RS-485 communications, two adjustable set points, and a configurable 0 to 10 V DC analog output. This vacuum gauge is also sometimes called a Pirani vacuum gauge. Other names include digital vacuum gauge and analog vacuum gauge.
Additional Features
The bright color OLED display makes it easy to read from a distance. Settings on this gauge are configurable from four touch controls on the top of the unit. All features accessible through the front panel are also configurable through RS-485 communications. EthernetIP is also an option if you add an MX EthernetIP Gateway. This vacuum gauge is available with many flanges and fittings. These include KF/NW, NPT, Conflat/CF, and straight tube.
Electrical Information, Set Points, Overpressure, and Bakeout
The electrical connector is a D-Sub 15 (DB15) male. The vacuum gauge operates on 22 to 26 V DC with power draw up to 8 W (0.33 A). One of the set points is an electromechanical relay and the other is an open collector. These set point outputs are configurable to switch anywhere within the range of the gauge (1*10-3 to 1,000 Torr ). The gauge has an overpressure limit of 150 PSI. It is also rated for bakeout temperatures up to 200 °C (392 °F) with the electronics removed.
Certifications, Compliance, and Common Uses
This vacuum gauge is CE certified to EN 61010-1, EN 61326-1, and EN 55011. It also has CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 61010-1-12 and EAC certification, and is RoHS and REACH compliant. It is intended for use in any non-corrosive environment, and includes built-in gas correction factors. Common applications include vacuum furnaces, heat treat, thin film deposition, and many others.
MX4A Measurement Technology and Gas Dependence
The MX4A vacuum gauge measures pressure using thermal conductivity measurements from a filament. Heat loss from the heated filament correlates to pressure. Heat loss from the heated filament correlates to pressure. Different gases have different thermal conductivity characteristics. This means that MX4A measurements are gas dependent. The MX4A has built in gas correction factors for air, nitrogen, and argon.
Calibration
The MX4A comes with standard electrical factory calibration. NIST traceable and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration is also available. You can request calibration of your gauge on our website here.

The MX4A has two set points. Set point 1 is an N-Channel 60 V MOSFET open collector. It has a maximum current rating of 1 A. The datasheet can be found at www.vishay.com/en/product/69958.
Set point 2 is a relay with a maximum switching voltage of 220 V DC (250 V AC) and a maximum switching current of 2 A. The datasheet can be found at www.te.com/catalog/pn/en/1393788-3.
